Minutes of 2/13/16 NY Executive Committee Meeting

Venue: Hibiscus Jamaica

Time: 800-1030pm

Attending: Kris Lachman, Howard Bernstein, Riaz Bacchus, Ameer Gulmohamad, Shirley Brijlal, Radha Bernstein, Nancy Verdi, Somwattie Jaggernauth, Sylvana Billings class 1968 guest.

Items discussed:

  • The committee was pleased to welcome 2 new members:
  1. Somwattie Jaggernauth: who was a Science teacher at LCSS from 2006- 2012, It is very valuable for us to have Somi join as we can get actual perspective from her experience at LCSS.
  2. Nancy Verdi: who designed and struggled through the difficult implementation of our new website. Nancy will be in charge of caring for and updating the new site.
  • Copier Machine: We have decided to fund the $1070.00 purchase of the Canon 1435 but we would like an extended warranty quotation which Pamela will ask for
  • AC Unit: We agree to fund approx.. $1025.00 for this unit provided it is to be a replacement for the unit near the computer lab area. Pamela must chose the proper model for the school.
  • Home Economics Lab: This project was the basis of a very spirited debate with the committee members requesting the following information from the school:
  1. How many students are currently enrolled in the Home Econ. program
  2. Is the program required or is it an elective
  3. What is the percentage of students getting passing grades in this program and how many are taking the exam and passing
  4. Did the Headmaster apply to the local Education Ministry to see if they would fund the same proposal that was given to St. Francis Community Developers (This is the proposal we have)
  • Our new website: The new lcgss-aa.org is up and running. It still needs a bit of fine tuning and Nancy will be taking care this. Nancy will be looking into adding a link to Amazon where we might be able to get some proceeds from Amazon for our being a charity.
  • University of Guyana Scholarship: We have agreed to start this program by paying for the UG tuition of one qualifying student each year. We will be working out the details over the next weeks
  • Fundraiser September 2016: We agreed to have a fundraiser that will be easy for the members to handle without the pressure of selling tickets and raffles etc.

  • It was really great for me to attend my first LCGSS Committee meeting which was very inspiring as well as a lot of fun. Next time we have to take some pictures!
