BERBICE CRICKET BOARD GETS HELP FOR TWO/THREE FIRST DIVISION CRICKET COMPETITION FROM SUPPORTERS IN NORTH AMERICA.
The good work of the BCB despite the challenges faced, continues to market itself in North American. The latest being assistance in the form of US$700.00 which will go directly to assist with the upcoming two/three days cricket competition for first division teams in Berbice. The board has fulfilled its mandate over the years by securing sponsorship for all competitions except the longer version and that is because of the high cost. The board is cognizant of the fact of the importance of the of this type of competition which will help to strengthen the mental and physical tuffness of cricketers. As a result, the BCB decided to seek multiple sponsorship. Already on board is the National Sports Commission who has contributed $250,000.00. The board has also raised funds are part of their contribution to the tournament.
With the competition expected to commence shortly, the BCB appeals to corporate Guyana, private individuals, former cricketers/administrators and friends overseas to do likewise and come on board. The preliminary rounds within the zones will be of two days duration. The knockout stage will be of three days duration.
Coming on board are two friends, Chris Lachman and Rajendra Ramlall, both Guyanese now living in the USA. Lachman, formerly from Hampshire, is well known for his continued support to his former school, Lower Corentyne Secondary while Ramlall was from Better Hope, East Coast, Demerara.
At a simple presentation done in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY, Lachman said that he and Ramlall feel blessed, privileged, happy and thankful that they can contribute to make a difference in the lives of young people in their country of birth, Berbice in particular. He added that Berbice has a rich cricket history and he is a keen follower of the progress of the board and players. He is impressed with the non stop cricket organized by the BCB and was pleased with the progress of the two latest stars produced in the names of winning West Indies under 19 captain Shimron Hetmyer and Gudakesh Motie.
Lachman continued by saying that he will seek more help for the BCB from others in the diaspora. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the BCB was Dalchand Rambharose, a friend of Berbice cricket and current sponsor of the Inter Secondary Schools Under 15 cricket for schools in Berbice. He thanked Lachman and Ramlall for their kind gesture and for still thinking of giving back to their land of birth. He said as a sponsor, he is confident that their investment is a wise one and will surely go a long way in helping the further development of the young cricketers in Berbice.
The competition will be named “BCB/National Sports Commission/Friends of Berbice Two/Three First Division Cricket”. The board take this opportunity to say thanks to Director of Sports, Christopher Jones.
