12/7/11

Here is a summary of what happened at the recent LCSS graduation as reported by our Guyana liason Phulmanie De Nogrega to Eno Chabinauth:

Phul was a VIP guest seated together with Mr. Raghunandan representing Ministry of Ed., Mr. Yassim – PTA Chairman, Mr. Imran Ali and Mr. LaCruz. The highlights of the event were:

1. Many praises were given to the USA based Alumni and the monetary contribution made towards the graduation.

2. Phul made her speech which incorporated information sent from the Executive Committee stating our goals and vision for helping the school . The names of the Executive Committee members were announced.

3. Every graduating student received a trophy. Top achievers received additional awards and the best overall student trophy was donated by The Ministry of Ed.

Also the top student in Forms 1 thru 4 each got a trophy as well. By the way these 4 students were all female. The Executive Committee is pleased with the broad acknowledgement of so many students.

4. The ceremony lasted about 3 1/2 hrs. after which refreshments, snacks and food were served. Students then had an after party.

5. The Headmaster will eventually provide receipts of expenses and pictures.

6. We will get to see a copy of Phul’s speech, but perhaps not the others.

Further LCSS information:

1) Phul recommends we get the school a computer, printer and DSL connection which costs USD35.00 monthly . Ramesh Narine will head the computer class and can then be in direct contact with us from the school once the DSL and computer are set up

2) The HM is very busy at this time of year and being December is a short month, we will be getting a full response to our recent letter in January. In January the teacher/student committee will be established and Phul asked for Mr. Raghunandan to be a member and it was agreed. The HM also wants to form an association of alumni still living in Guyana as a few attended the graduation

3) The school still provides lunch for about 30 students daily
