Venue:  Nest Restaurant, Jamaica

Time:  9-10:30pm

Attendees:  Radha and Howard Bernstein, Kris Lachman, Riaz Bachus,  Eno Chabinauth, Ameer Gulmohamad, Shirley Brijlal, Guests:  Phulmanie De Nobrega and Malini Ruhomutally

Topics Discussed:

1)      Dinner Dance Funds Raiser:  The dance was quite a success and we raised $9009.00 which pleased all the members.  We were pressed for time on our agenda so at the next meeting we will go over in detail all the particulars in preparation for future events.

2)      Phulmanie De Nobrega:  She is Eno’s cousin and Phulmanie who lives in New Amsterdam near LCSS was very interested in being our contact person in Guyana for all LCSS matters.  After meeting her we all quickly decided to go ahead with this plan.  Phulmanie has lived in both Canada and Guyana.  She is an alumni of LCSS class ’72 and was a teacher for a period of time in Guyana.  She’s active in women’s causes in Guyana and her husband is an accountant in Guyana with good business contacts.  So all this experience will be ideal for us.  Phulmanie will return to Guyana on 9/30/11 and soon thereafter will reach out to the new headmaster and coordinate the establishment of a committee of teachers and students that will liason with us.  She will also see to the graduation ceremony which we will fund and getting the playground finished.  If this all goes well it will be indeed be the platform we need to grow our organization and its efficiency.

3)    Scholarship fund:  We discussed giving rewards to worthy LCSS students and we agreed to establish a fund for attending Guyana University.  This will cost US$600 per student per each year of attendance and we will fund this either from our treasury or privately among members.  Further discussions will happen on this in future meetings

4)      Facebook and the Website:   The website is linked to Facebook now and we will do the reverse shortly.  We will also try to improve the Facebook page and try to eliminate some of the “phantom” pages that pop up when someone is searching for the LCSS page.  Right now it is hard to find the LCSS Facebook page doing a search.  Our website will be redesigned by Ameer to make it fresh and more relevant etc.
