Minutes of 5/14/10 NY Special Executive Committee meeting

Venue: Bernstein residence

Time: 8-10pm

Attending: Kris Lachman, Riaz Bacchus, Radha and Howard Bernstein, Rakesh Ragubir, Shirley Brijlal,Sandra Mangray and special guest Head Mistress Nirmala Hussein

We had the pleasure of meeting with the LCSS Head Mistress and had the special opportunity to review many important areas and issues concerning the school.

Ms. Nirmala reported to us as follows:

  1. There is not enough school furniture and there needs to be in some classes 3 students per bench, which of course is uncomfortable. LCSS requests to get additional furniture from the Ministry of Education has so far been unsuccessful.
  2. Only 9 out of 15 computers are working in the computer room.
  3. The library had to be converted to 2 classrooms for lack of space.
  4. The airconditioner that was provided to the school is not working and it is badly needed for the computer room.
  5. The school really wants a new computer lab ideally with 20-25 desktop units and a wireless high speed connection.
  6. The computer lab is secure as there is day and night security guards. Windows are grilled.
  7. It was suggested we explore what computers we can buy for the school locally in New Amsterdam and at what cost vs shipping same from USA.
  8. 5th form room is too hot and work needs to be done to better ventilate it.
  9. It was suggested that we appeal directly to President Jagdeo to assist our efforts with bettering the conditions at LCSS. This will be further discussed in the next Executive Committee meeting.

All of the above issues will be now considered a priority and this meeting helped us to be properly focused on the most important/current needs of the school.
