Minutes of 4/19/18 NY Executive Committee meeting

Venue: Video Conference

Time: 800-925pm

Attending: Kris Lachman, Howard Bernstein, Riaz Bacchus, Ameer Gulmohamad, Shirley Brijlal, Pamie Jaijairam

This was our first internet video conference and all went well. We accomplished a lot being able to hear Pamie and get immediate answers.

Items discussed:

  • Computer lab:
  1. A quotation for US$3100.00 to renovate the lab was provided by the same contractor who did the Home Ec lab. Pamie will seek a quote for the electrical work and then we will take a decision whether or not to fund this renovation. There is a chance the ministry might do the electrical work once they see we will fund the basic renovation. Pamie will check with the ministry if it is possible without much delay
  2. Pamie will provide us photos showing the current condition of the lab
  3. There are about 13 computers in the lab and the government is providing them and servicing them, under the E-Governance program. This means we will not have to supply computers
  4. There is a 24 hour security guard in the school
  • Home Ec lab: Pamie reports it is in excellent condition and being well taken care of by the school. Enrollment is increasing in this class and everyone including the Executive Committee was very pleased about this. It proves we can make a significant difference with the projects we have taken on.
  • Scholarship program: Pamie will:
  1. request a copy of the transcript from the student we funded
  2. check to see if there is any balance of funds
  • Headmaster situation: A permanent HM has been missing since August 2017 with Ms. Sharon Hawker still filling in temporarily. The Deputy HM Ms. Chandra Bachan, known to Riaz, has been in the deputy position for awhile.
  • Interschool Science Fair: LCSS won a first and second place and Pamie is to send us photos for the website
  • Decorating the school: Pamie is asking for US$50 for planting trees and decorating walls. We agreed to fund this and will make arrangements to get her the money.
  • Election Year is 2020: Riaz suggested to Pamie that prior to any election year, its best to apply for and easier to get funding for any projects from local officials. Pamie will look into this especially for that needed playground.
