Minutes of 3/31/12 NY Executive Committee meeting
Venue: Mateus Restaurant, Jamaica
Time: 900-1100pm
Attending: Kris Lachman, Radha and Howard Bernstein, Ameer Gulmohamad, Riaz Bacchus
Items discussed:
- The main focus of the meeting was Riaz’s upcoming trip to Guyana on April 6. He will be able to spend 2 weeks at the school and will meet with the HM and the teachers. He will make a detailed analysis of the current situation at the school and it is needs and what direction we as a group should be headed.
- Upon Riaz’s return we will make our group short term and long term goals and our official mission statement. We will publish this statement so that all alumni will know what our plans will be for helping the school
- Riaz will meet with the Ministry of Education to discuss if they would be interested in building a new school if our association offers to put up a certain amount of money in partnership. If there is interest from the Ministry this is most likely going to be our long term goal.
- Shirley Brijlal had mentioned recently that due to the unusually hot weather in Guyana it is now very uncomfortable in the school. So the school needs fans. Riaz is going to look into that and we have agreed to fund that immediately so that we can improve the learning environment
- Riaz is going to review with the HM his wish list and also the supplies currently needed. Upon his return we will take the decision which items to send and how to go about doing it.
- Riaz will also make contact with Phool
- Fund Raiser for 2012: We touched briefly on this and will decide at the next meeting if we will have one this year
- We are interested in new members for the executive committee and we will perusue this during the year.
